Homemaker provides independent advice and support to people who require help in maintaining accommodation throughout Devon.

TRAINEE DEBT ADVICE CASEWORKER/
DEBT ADVICE CASEWORKER

Part-time (22.2 hours per week) days of work to be agreed.

We are looking to recruit an experienced Debt Advice Caseworker, or someone who has transferable skills and wants to train to become an accredited Debt Advice Caseworker, to work as part of a small team, covering the full range of debt work throughout South Devon.

The successful candidate may not have the necessary advice experience but will be positive, professional, flexible and adaptable. Strong people skills, the ability to work in an empowering way and a positive attitude are important; as are good numeracy skills for calculating and helping clients prepare budgets, along with literacy skills for drafting correspondence and reports.

If applying as a trainee, you will be expected to undertake training to reach caseworker level within an agreed period; and subsequently, you would be expected to work towards gaining the Certificate in Money Advice Practice and DRO intermediary status. Therefore, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate evidence of recent learning.

You will need to be able to prioritise your own work, meet deadlines and manage your caseload successfully.

The post will involve visiting people in their own homes, so there will be a need for travel throughout Devon, to fulfil this role: and the use of your own car is an essential requirement.

You will be based in our Exeter office

Salary - £18,000 - £22,000 pro rata (depending on experience) +3% pension

(Rising to £22,837.50 on satisfactory completion of training)

Volunteer with us

Each year Homemaker Southwest works with thousands of people in Devon who have money problems. We are now looking at recruiting volunteers to support us in providing our much-needed services, whether this might be someone at risk of being made homeless, someone in extreme financial crisis or someone in need of tips to make their money stretch further.

Volunteering is a great opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people and gain valuable experience for the workplace.  Homemaker is looking for people with various backgrounds, talents and skill levels to volunteer with us. We have a range of opportunities available for people to get involved.

In return for your time and effort we will: cover expenses incurred, provide an opportunity to develop your skills and gain experience in the charity sector, and, crucially, provide all the tea or coffee you can drink!

Whilst we are happy to help you fit your volunteering with us around your other commitments, such as your caring responsibilities, we do expect you to agree a regular time for volunteering; and to do so for at least 9 months.

Any current volunteering opportunities will be listed on this page. We offer all our volunteers full training, and a welcoming, friendly office environment in the centre of Exeter; along with the opportunity to get fully involved in our organisation.

Advice Support Volunteer: Plymouth and Exeter

Are you looking for an opportunity to use your office/admin skills? We are keen to recruit an admin volunteer to join our team in our Exeter office for a minimum of 4 hours each week: Monday PM, Tuesday AM/PM or Wednesday PM.
