WHAT IS THE MORTGAGE ARREARS ADVICE SERVICE?
The Mortgage Arrears Advice project is a free service from Homemaker that has been set up in response to national concerns about the rise in home repossessions.It is funded by the Devon Strategic Housing Group (DSHG), which comprises all Local Authorities in Devon, who have a strong commitment to working in partnership with other services to better meet the needs of local residents.
HOW DOES THE SERVICE OPERATE?

The aim of the service is preventative, providing people with clear and practical information about their options hopefully before their mortgage lender has taken them to court, but in some cases when they are already facing repossession.WHO CAN ACCESS THE SERVICE?
The dedicated phone line is available directly to anyone living in Devon who is worried about keeping up with their mortgage payments. There is no charge for the service.WHAT SORT OF ADVICE IS AVAILABLE?
The Advisor will usually discuss with callers the circumstances that have led to their current difficulties. They will then be given advice on their likely options, and information on how to get the most from their income and from benefit entitlements if appropriate. If someone clearly needs further help, including legal advice, they may be signposted to another relevant agency such as CAB, their Local Authority Housing Advice team, or a solicitor.
